How Long Does a Vape Coil Last?

A vape coil typically lasts three to 10 days. Here's what shortens that - sweetened e-liquid is the main culprit - how to tell when a coil is done, and how to prime a new one so it lasts.
A vape coil typically lasts between three and 10 days. Where you land in that range depends on four things: how often you vape, what kind of e-liquid you run through it, how much power you push into it, and how well you prime it when it's new. Heavy daily vapers on sweet, dark juice at high wattage sit at the short end. Occasional vapers on light, clear juice at modest power can stretch past two weeks.
Coils are consumable by design - they're a wick and a wire, and both degrade with heat. The goal isn't to make one last forever, it's to stop replacing them earlier than you need to.
You'll usually taste it before anything else. The signs, roughly in the order most people notice them:
A burnt taste on a brand-new coil is a different problem - that's almost always a priming issue rather than a dead coil. See below.
Four factors do most of the work:
Prime it properly. This matters more than everything else combined. Before you use a new coil, put a few drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed wick openings, fill the tank or pod, then let it sit for five to 10 minutes. A dry wick on first fire is the fastest way to kill a coil in one puff.
Beyond that:
Not usefully, in most cases. Rinsing a used coil can shift some residue, but it doesn't restore the cotton, which is the part that has actually degraded. Once flavour is gone it's gone. Rebuildable atomisers are the exception - those are designed to have the wick replaced by hand.
Often, yes - but not always, and the difference is smaller than the price gap suggests. Better coils tend to use higher-grade mesh and cotton, which distribute heat more evenly and resist scorching. That buys you consistency more than raw lifespan. Buying the correct coil for your device and running it in its intended wattage range makes a far bigger difference than paying more.
Counterfeit coils are the real trap - they're common, they perform badly, and they fail early. Buying from a retailer that sources through authorised distributors is the simplest protection.
Neither has a user-replaceable coil. In a disposable the coil is sealed inside and the device is finished when the juice or battery runs out. In a pre-filled pod system like STLTH, the coil lives inside the pod - so you replace the coil every time you click in a fresh pod, without thinking about it. Coil replacement is only something you manage on refillable devices.
Coils are not interchangeable between devices - each device takes its own family, and often its own generation within that family. Check what your device takes before ordering, and if you're unsure, ask us rather than guessing. You can browse everything we carry in coils, and empty replacement pods for refillable pod devices are listed separately.
