How to Use a Ripper Vape: Charging, Power Modes and Ripper X Pods

How to charge every Ripper by RufPuf, what the power modes actually do, how Ripper X pods go on, cold-weather battery care and quick fixes for the common problems.

Most of the Ripper questions we get boil down to four things: how do I charge it, what do the modes do, how does the Ripper X pod go on, and why is it suddenly blinking at me. Here's all of it in one place, model by model, with the specs from the actual devices we stock.

First: which Ripper have you got?

RufPuf makes Rippers in two forms, and they work a little differently.

  • All-in-one disposables - the battery, coil and e-liquid are sealed in one device. When the e-liquid is gone, the whole device is done.
  • The Ripper X pod system - a reusable battery (the Ripper X Ultra) plus pre-filled pods that clip on. When a pod is empty you replace the pod and keep the battery.

Here's how the current range lines up:

Model E-liquid Battery Power modes
Ripper Mini 1100 2mL Built in None
Ripper Sleek 8mL Built in, with battery and e-liquid indicators None
Flipper X 32K 20mL, split between two flavours 500mAh, USB-C Flavour selector
Ripper Turbo 3 50K 20mL 700mAh, USB-C Soft 12W, Normal 20W, Turbo 28W
Khalifa Bar 60K (5mg freebase) 20mL 700mAh, USB-C Eco, Turbo
Ripper Z 99K 20mL 800mAh, USB-C Ice, Regular
Ripper XXX 125K 30mL 800mAh, USB-C Smooth, Rich, Insane

Ripper X Ultra battery + 50K or 75K pods 20mL per pod 1000mAh, USB-C Adjustable wattage

Using an all-in-one Ripper

There's no setup. Rippers are draw-activated, so you take it out of the box and inhale - no button to press before each puff. If your model has an airflow control, start in the middle: opening it gives a looser, airier draw, closing it gives a tighter one. On a model with power modes, start on the lowest setting and move up only if you want more vapour (more on why below).

On the Flipper X 32K, the selector picks which of the two flavours you're drawing from. Each flavour has its own share of the 20mL - about 16,000 puffs each - so one side can run out before the other. That's normal: switch to the other side and keep going.

Using the Ripper X: battery and pods

  1. Charge the battery first. The Ripper X Ultra ships as a battery on its own, so give it a charge over USB-C before the first pod goes on.
  2. Clip the pod on. Push it straight onto the battery until it sits flush and firm. A pod that's slightly crooked won't make proper contact.
  3. Draw. Like the disposables, the pods have no buttons - the battery fires when you inhale.
  4. Swap when it's empty. When vapour drops off and stays low on a charged battery, the pod is out of e-liquid. Swap it rather than keep drawing on it - drawing on an empty pod heats a dry coil.

The Ripper X Ultra takes both the Ripper X 50K and Ripper X 75K pods. It doesn't run the all-in-one Rippers above, which have their own battery built in, and it isn't compatible with the Flavour Beast Level X M Series pods.

Charging, done right

The Ripper X Ultra battery, Flipper X 32K, Turbo 3 50K, Khalifa Bar 60K, Ripper Z 99K, Ripper XXX 125K and Matrix 130K all charge over USB-C. On the smaller Rippers, check the base: if there's a USB-C port, charge it the same way. If there isn't one, the device is built to run until its battery or its e-liquid gives out.

  • Use a regular USB-C cable plugged into a computer port or a standard wall adapter.
  • Don't leave it charging unattended or overnight, and unplug it once the indicator shows full. Health Canada's vaping safety advice says the same thing: follow the manufacturer's charging instructions and stop once the recommended time is up.
  • Don't charge it while you're using it.
  • If a device ever gets hot while charging, swells, or the case cracks, unplug it and stop using it.

Battery size and puff count are two different things. The mAh rating tells you how long the device runs between charges. The e-liquid sets how long it lasts overall. A Ripper XXX 125K carries 30mL of e-liquid on an 800mAh battery, so it's designed to be recharged many times before it's empty. Needing to charge a big disposable every few days isn't a fault, it's how it's built.

Rippers in a Canadian winter

Lithium-ion batteries don't like the cold. Below freezing they deliver less power, so a Ripper that's spent a -25 morning in the car or an outside pocket can feel weak or show a low battery even when it was charged that morning. Let it warm back up and most of that charge comes back.

The bigger rule: don't charge a lithium-ion battery while it's below 0°C. Charging a frozen cell can damage it permanently. If your Ripper has been outside or in the car, give it time to come up to room temperature before you plug it in. And don't leave it in a parked car at either end of the year - a car in a July heat wave is just as hard on the battery as one in January.

What the power modes actually do

A power mode sets how many watts the battery sends to the coil. More watts means a hotter coil, which vaporises more e-liquid per puff and drains the battery faster. The Turbo 3 50K makes it easy to see: Turbo runs at 28W, more than double Soft's 12W. If you want the background on watts, volts and ohms, we've covered it in The Electricity Behind Your Vape.

That has a direct effect on how long your Ripper lasts. Rated puff counts are manufacturer estimates, and real-world numbers depend on how long each draw is and which mode you use. Running a 125K or 130K device on its top mode all day will use the e-liquid up noticeably faster than the lowest setting. If you're chasing the full rating, stay low.

Troubleshooting

It won't fire, or the light flashes when you draw. Charge it first - a flat battery is by far the most common cause. On a Ripper X, take the pod off, check that the contacts on the pod and the battery are clean and dry, and clip it back on firmly.

Weak vapour on a new device. Check the airflow isn't closed off, and if your model has modes, try one step up.

A burnt or harsh draw. Usually the e-liquid is running out and the coil is running dry. If it's a Ripper X, swap the pod. If it happens on a nearly full device, drop to a lower mode and leave a few seconds between puffs.

It's plugged in but the battery indicator doesn't change. Try a different cable and a different port before deciding the device is faulty. Cables wear out far more often than batteries do.

Still not working? If a Ripper arrives faulty, get in touch and tell us your order number and what it's doing - just ask us.

When it's empty

Every Ripper has a lithium-ion battery inside, so please don't put an empty one in the garbage or the blue bin - batteries in collection trucks are a real fire risk. Take it to your municipality's household hazardous waste or battery drop-off instead.

Which Ripper fits how you vape?

  • Light or occasional use: the Ripper Mini 1100 or the slim Ripper Sleek.
  • Want something under 20mg: the Ripper Sleek is the only Ripper with a 0mg version, and it also offers 10mg on selected flavours. The Ripper Z 99K and Ripper X 75K pods also come in 10mg on selected flavours, and the Khalifa Bar 60K is 5mg freebase nicotine with shisha-style flavours.
  • Want two flavours in one device: the Flipper X 32K.
  • Want control over output: the Turbo 3 50K, XXX 125K or Matrix 130K, each with three modes.
  • Vape a lot and want to keep the battery: the Ripper X Ultra with Ripper X pods. You buy the battery once, then only pods.

Strengths and flavours vary by province, and each product page shows what's stocked for yours. You'll find the whole range, side by side, in our Ripper by RufPuf collection - and if you buy 6 or more disposables (Ripper X pods count), 10% comes off automatically at checkout.

Ripper FAQ

How do I charge a Ripper vape?
Plug a USB-C cable into the port on the device. The Ripper X Ultra battery, Flipper X 32K, Turbo 3 50K, Khalifa Bar 60K, Ripper Z 99K, Ripper XXX 125K and Matrix 130K all charge this way. Don't leave it charging unattended, and unplug it once the indicator shows full.

Why is my Ripper blinking?
Most often the battery is flat - charge it and try again. On a Ripper X, also take the pod off and reseat it so it makes clean contact with the battery.

How do I put a pod on the Ripper X?
Push the pod straight onto a charged Ripper X Ultra battery until it sits flush and firm, then inhale. There are no buttons - it fires when you draw.

Which pods fit the Ripper X Ultra battery?
The Ripper X 50K and Ripper X 75K pods. It doesn't run the all-in-one Ripper disposables, and it isn't compatible with the Flavour Beast Level X M Series pods.

How many puffs will I actually get?
Puff ratings are manufacturer estimates. Higher power modes and longer draws use e-liquid faster, so you'll get closer to the rating on the lowest setting.

Can I charge my Ripper when it's cold?
Let it warm up to room temperature first. Lithium-ion batteries shouldn't be charged below 0°C.
